 A bird native to the open woodlands of Africa. It feeds mainly on seeds, berries, and invertebrates. It is often seen near herds of animals, sometimes removing parasites from them. It frequently forms mixed flocks with other starling species. It nests in natural cavities or abandoned woodpecker holes.

According to the IUCN Red List, its status is LC (Least Concern).
