A bird native to the subtropical and tropical regions of Africa, commonly found in grasslands, shrublands, wetlands, and plantations. It measures 14–16 cm in length and weighs between 22–36 grams. The species was first described in 1880 by the German ornithologist Jean Cabanis.
According to the IUCN Red List, its status is LC (Least Concern).
