Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina)

A species found in southern and central Europe as well as Central Asia, spending the winter mainly in the Mediterranean region. It prefers lakes with open water surfaces and larger marshes, where it often feeds by diving. The male is easily recognizable by its striking orange-red head.

In Hungary, it is a protected species.

According to the IUCN Red List, its status is LC (Least Concern).
