Eurasian Wigeon (Mareca penelope)

Breeds in northern Europe and Asia, migrating to Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East for winter. It inhabits shallow lakes, marshes, and coastal lagoons, often feeding on grassy areas near the shore. Its diet is mainly plant-based, and it gets its name from its distinctive whistling call.

In Hungary, it is a protected species.

According to the IUCN Red List, its status is LC (Least Concern).
